We’re very fortunate to have a positive, friendly and sociable atmosphere at Wessex Badminton Club. We ask all attendees to the club to familiarise themselves with this code of conduct.

1. When other players are playing games, individuals who are standing off court and not playing should keep well clear of the perimeter of all courts, especially the rear of the courts, to avoid collisions with players who are moving backwards to hit the shuttle. If you need to pass in between courts, please wait for the current point to be finished to avoid distracting players or risking a collision.

2. When playing doubles games, never look behind you to watch your partner hit the shuttle, this is a common cause of serious eye injuries in badminton and can even lead to loss of sight.

3. Always tap rackets, shake hands or high five and thank your opponents and partner for the game at the end of each game/match.

4. Do your best to learn the rules of the game and play accordingly. There are endless helpful videos on YouTube. The Badminton Insight channel is particularly helpful and informative.

5. We encourage all members to watch YouTube videos specifically on player positioning in both mixed and levels doubles games for their safety and the safety of others. Knowing where you should stand and move during a game helps to avoid collisions and expensive racquet clashes.

6. When a point is scored, the correct sporting etiquette in badminton is to pass the shuttle back to the player who is serving. Please refrain from hitting the shuttle across the floor as this can damage the shuttle. Please keep a watch out for shuttlecocks lying on court and place them away from the court when not in use as they can be a potential trip hazard.

7. In the event of any injury, please inform a committee member or member of leisure centre staff straight away.

8. Please stay on your side of the net and on your court when playing. Do not run onto other courts as this could lead to collisions and injury.

9. If you chose to pay cash for your club night fees, please give this to a member of the committee so that they can record your payment and not just put the cash in the tin. This ensures we can track who each payment is from.

10. The Club Welfare Officer is Rachel Jacobs, if you have any questions or concerns regarding safeguarding, please contact her at welfare@wessexbadminton.co.uk
